To be honest I'm a bit disappointed。 This book starts off with a bang, and then takes up until 60% through to really get to the nitty gritty。 I also hated the fact the premise is this epic quest with seven cool and different characters but we don't even meet all seven of them up until the 60% mark as well, and the way they band together is so extremely random and arbitrary it was almost like she was working through some sort of checklist or something。 The Spindle thing was never explained well a To be honest I'm a bit disappointed。 This book starts off with a bang, and then takes up until 60% through to really get to the nitty gritty。 I also hated the fact the premise is this epic quest with seven cool and different characters but we don't even meet all seven of them up until the 60% mark as well, and the way they band together is so extremely random and arbitrary it was almost like she was working through some sort of checklist or something。 The Spindle thing was never explained well and ended up as much too vague a thing to really stand on its own as the driving force of the plot tbh。 The budding romance between Andry and Corayne feels so uncomfortably forced like "Oh look, the only two teenagers in the club so they just HAVE to get together。" Urgh。When all is said and done it wasn't a bad book by any means, but I really expected so much more here。 I did really love Red Queen, but unfortunately, not so this one。 。。。more

Rating: 3。5 out of 5 starsWow, this book was heavy, literally and figuratively。 This new installment by Victoria Aveyard, author of “Red Queen,” is a very interesting story。 Realm Breaker reminded me a little of her other series, heavily based on fantasy and if there’s something you’ll always get from Aveyard is amazing writing。 There’s so much great world-building here heavily based on geography that’s impossible to skip any pages because you really don’t know what you may be missing。In this bo Rating: 3。5 out of 5 starsWow, this book was heavy, literally and figuratively。 This new installment by Victoria Aveyard, author of “Red Queen,” is a very interesting story。 Realm Breaker reminded me a little of her other series, heavily based on fantasy and if there’s something you’ll always get from Aveyard is amazing writing。 There’s so much great world-building here heavily based on geography that’s impossible to skip any pages because you really don’t know what you may be missing。In this book, we follow the story from multiple perspectives, each of them playing a role in saving their realm as they once knew it。 There are four main characters at first, who all join together to close down spindles that are being torn into their realm threatening to destroy them。 Later on, as they recruit more people to join a lost cause, three other characters join and the seven of them go on to save what others don’t want to。 One of the POV we follow is a princess trying to recruit people to join the cause of saving the realm and throughout the story, we find out how many people think that saving their realm is a lost cause--which is why the band of saviors so far only consists of seven people。 I believe there’s so much to unpack throughout this story, not to mention how we follow seven points of view (there might be more) and have to keep up with the incredible world-building that Aveyard brings upon us。 The first thing that I’d like to mention, which to me is the most relevant and the main reason I kept reading this book, was her world-building。 Victoria Aveyard’s world-building was heavily based on geography。 If you have a copy of the book you’ll see that the book opens to a map of her world。 Which was incredibly detailed and well designed。 Throughout the entire story, she described every place these characters happen to be upon and it was so entertaining although tedious at times, to keep going back and forth between the map and the descriptions to see where these characters were according to the map。 Not only that but trying to find the locations that the author described in the story on the map (making me feel like Dora the Explorer) was challenging but fun。 She did such a great job describing and building up her world, that if you don’t like anything else from my review, I recommend you read it for this part alone。 Moreover, you can always count on Victoria for having great storytelling abilities。 This may not be the story for you, but you can’t deny her great writing style。 Every time I turned a page, I was so impressed by her writing skills that it just made me want to keep going and going。 I hate to repeat myself, but she has great attention to detail and ways of describing her characters which amazed me。 Although I didn't enjoy her Red Queen series as much (I only read the first and second book), I must say that this was a pleasant story。 With that being said, this may not be the story for everybody。 I believe she did a great job writing it, but I think she may have written for the wrong target audience。 I’m not saying that people won’t like her book, I just think that if she had written it as an adult fantasy it would be appreciated better。 This is a heavy high-fantasy-based book where its main components were adventure, friendship, banter, and world-saving, which is different from the kind of fantasy we see on YA。 Most Young Adult books have an element of romance in their stories and which is not the case for this book。 Again, I’m not saying it’s a bad book or anything, it’s just that it may not appeal to teens as much because of the lack of romance in it。Even though this story was beautifully written, this story wasn’t meant for me。 I may read the second book but I’m not sure。 I admired her writing style throughout the entire book; however, it took me longer than I anticipated to finish this story。 And it wasn’t so much because of how long it was (because it was really long and it felt even longer with her descriptions), it was mostly because I lost interest in the story at times。 I cannot tell you how many times I put this book down with no intention of picking it back up and now that it’s over, I’m glad。 Again, this doesn’t mean it was a bad story, it just means the story wasn’t for me。 I can see this book being more attractive to an older audience, though。 So, if you like authors like Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, Brandon Sanderson, N。K。 Jemisin, R。F。 Kuang, etc。, then this may be the book for you。If you enjoyed her other series and enjoy authors like Rebecca McLaughlin, Margaret Robinson, Kristin Cashore, Keirsten White, Maggie Stiefvater, etc。, then you may enjoy this book。 This book is for fifteen years old and older。 And as always, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my post, I truly appreciate it。 。。。more

3。5For the most part this was a solid fantasy novel, however there was something missing from the overall story that prevented me from being hooked into the story。 I enjoyed the characters on a surface level but didn’t love any of them。 The relationships didn’t feel fleshed out and development was minimal。 (since this is book 1, I hope that later books will improve on this)。 Although I will say I loved that romance was not at all a focus! I gotta give that extra points。

It was a entertaining book, with lots of fantastic world building and awesome scenes。 That’s where it really shines, but because of that the other elements suffer。 The characters could have been really interesting。 An immortal being, an assassin, a wanna be pirate and a fallen priest - that all sounds so cool and as the author put it “LOTR meets Guardians of the Galaxy。” But none of the characters really felt that special or had personalities that felt unique。 Maybe in the sequel they will devel It was a entertaining book, with lots of fantastic world building and awesome scenes。 That’s where it really shines, but because of that the other elements suffer。 The characters could have been really interesting。 An immortal being, an assassin, a wanna be pirate and a fallen priest - that all sounds so cool and as the author put it “LOTR meets Guardians of the Galaxy。” But none of the characters really felt that special or had personalities that felt unique。 Maybe in the sequel they will develop more。 Lastly, the “villains” of the story didn’t feel menacing or a much of a threat at all。 They were definitely put on the side, which maybe was intentional? And hopefully they will develop more as villains in the sequels as well。 Overall, I thought it was well done for trying to be a higher fantasy in the YA genre, has super awesome world building and still has potential to be a great series of it can build off of its strengths and even its weaknesses。 。。。more

I did not like the author's Red Queen series but I had huge expectations for this book。 And may be that's why I'm disappointed。The author has created a world that is completely different from Red Queen and I really appreciate her efforts。The world alone gave me a Game of Throne-ish feel。That being said, the first few chapters are heavy with infodump and it made it difficult to imagine everything and get into the world。Once you get past it, the conflict is clear and you get ready to know the char I did not like the author's Red Queen series but I had huge expectations for this book。 And may be that's why I'm disappointed。The author has created a world that is completely different from Red Queen and I really appreciate her efforts。The world alone gave me a Game of Throne-ish feel。That being said, the first few chapters are heavy with infodump and it made it difficult to imagine everything and get into the world。Once you get past it, the conflict is clear and you get ready to know the characters。We are now introduced to a number of characters。Corayne :She is an okay character。She is the daughter of a fallen Prince and has Cor blood and is the chosen one。She is plain and normal。 One thing I liked about this character is that even though she is the chosen one she is not special and she doesn't act like she is above all else。She is logical and knows what she is and isn't capable of。 But she is not interesting。 Andry :He is soft, plain, bland and BORING。Sorasa : She is the most annoying character。She just acts like She is above everyone else。She is an assassin and seems to have an interesting past which we might know in the next book。But that doesn't make her any less annoying。I don't know if her constant bickering with Dom is supposed to be funny or cute but it just annoyed the hell out of me。Dom : His character was Okay。He is an Elder Prince。Immortal and Strong。I had two different feelings with Dom。 During the first few chapters when he appears he seemed interesting。 Like a Strong person with a strong purpose and a strong character。 But then he was just so dumb and looked like a fool in many places。He wants to avenge his friend and save the realm from the villain。But he doesn't have any depth and doesn't act like an Elder Prince is expected to act(If I correctly understood the elders)。But this is might change in the next books。 I still have hope for him。Ridha : She is the princess heir to Iona and Dom's cousin。 She seemed like a likeable character but we still don't know much about her。I would say her POV is completely unnecessary in this book and could have been taken to the next book。I'm waiting to read more about her。Erida : She is the only character I liked。She is very much interesting。She is the young Queen of Galland and she does everything for power。She has a deep connection to her dead father and aims to fulfill her father's wish to expand her rule。She clearly has a goal and is clever and knows everyone's mind games in her court。The interesting thing is she marries the Villain of the series and they both have their agendas。At this point I don't know if she's grey or outright villainous。 I'm leaning more towards grey。 I would have liked more of her POV。I hope she gets more pages in the next book。Then we have THE villain of the series Taristan。I REALLY wish he had his narrative in this book。He is Corayne's uncle。 He has Cor blood and kills his twin brother。 He wants to open the spindles and wants to be King(of Ashes?)。 He is very mysterious and intriguing。I would love to read more about his backstory。At this point we don't know what he wants to achieve by marrying Erida。 I believe Victoria Aveyard clearly knows how to write her Villains。Romance - There is a subtle Villain romance。 I mean villain-villain romance which is interesting。I can't wait to see where it goes。 Other than that book one doesn't have any romance it's almost zero。Overall, the world is excellent, there is a plot with high potential but with boring and annoying characters(At some point I stopped caring about everyone other than Erida)。 The book is VERY slow。But this is just the set up for the series。I believe it will get better as the story progresses。I would definitely continue the series。 。。。more

I could feel the Lord of the Rings vibe coming off the pages。 I now lowkey regret buying this one right away because now I have to wait for the sequel。 Corayne is such a strong character and I cant wait to see where her story goes。 I always loved Taristan and Erida and their dynamic。 Victoria Aveyard’s writing never misses and this book was amazing especially with its world building。 She really knows how to shock her readers and I’m here for it。

A pirate’s daughter teams up with a rag-tag group of people to save the Realm! Unfortunately, the execution of this concept was disappointing。 For the majority of the book, I was honestly bored。 I think the main reason I was disappointed was due to the way this book was marketed; the blurb makes big promises that the book is ultimately unable to deliver on in my personal opinion。 This is NOT a pirate book。 I’ll get more into stuff about the characters later, but for now I’ll point out some issues I had with the pacing and writing style。 This book is told from so many different POVs – at least 6。 Multpile POVs are a tricky thing to pull off。 Sometimes, this strategy works。 Sometimes, it doesn’t。 In this case, the POVs really bogged down the pace。 In at least one instance, one POV chapter actually retells the same event from a different perspective。 A lot of times, I felt the POVs just hindered forward momentum of the plot。 A few of the POVs didn’t really add much to the story (e。g。 Rhida – Dom’s cousin)。 Speaking of plot, there wasn’t much of it; it often meandered, and I kept waiting for it to pick up。 Out of this 568-paged story, there is a spurt of action near the beginning of the book, another spurt in the middle when the one main plot twist is revealed, and a concentrated spurt of action that is squished into the final few chapters。 But for the large chunks of text in-between, I often found myself bored。 This book is for people who like long chapters。 Each chapter averaged about 20 pages, but didn’t always accomplish much。 It got to the point where I was only reading about a chapter a day because of the lack of forward plot momentum。 I had to read a different, easier book simultaneously。 The prologue itself is 26 pages long。 Although I do admire how Aveyard was trying to do something conceptually different and establish the failure of the old “heroes,” this was one of the most difficult prologues for me to get through due to all of the new characters and terms introduced。 I was very confused about terms like “Spindleblade,” “Spindleblood,” etc。 The author certainly has a talent for world-buidling。 No doubt about that。 I did find the world of Realm Breaker to be interesting at first。 Yet, I felt there was just so much world-building and descriptions in this book that it overwhelmed the plot, and there was not enough action to keep me invested in the story。 The characters often journeyed from place to place, but more often than not, nothing very significant happened on the way or at their actual destinations。 There is a corpse-like army that is introduced at the beginning, and I thought it was very cool and creepy at first。 But then it’s hardly used throughout the book! (Aside from one very minor appearance。) Some highlights of this book were a tavern brawl with a bounty hunter, crashing a royal wedding, fighting a sea monster, cool horses, and hints of the beginning of a villain romance。 But other than these elements, I was largely bored。Characters & (Lack of) Romance:Here is a brief overview of the characters: In general, the characters are mainly defined by a single characteristic or trait, and it is difficult to get to know them in-depth due to having so many different POVs。 Corayne is the daughter of a pirate and destined to save the Realm。 Though the big hero sword is literally too heavy for her。 I did appreciate what Aveyard tried to do with this aspect of her character; Corayne is not your typical “strong hero” figure。 However, her being the daughter of a pirate has almost no significance for the actual plot of the story。 This was one reason I was disappointed。 Andry is a squire who survived a failed quest。 He is a typical “good-boy” character。 I didn’t find him particularly interesting。 Dom is an immortal who wants to avenge the death of his friend。 He reminded me a little of Thor, and I did like him overall。 Sorasa is an assassin, but she doesn’t do much actual assassinating。 That was another reason I was disappointed。 Overall, I like her tough character, but really wanted to now more of her history and backstory about what happened with the assassins’ guild。 But we aren’t really given it in this book。 Valtik is a witch, and I liked the quirkiness of her character。 But again, we don’t get to learn much about her, and she doesn’t add a whole lot to the plot。 She foretells some things, but overall speaks in unhelpful riddles。 There are two other characters that are added near the end of the story, but they didn’t bring much to the table。 I’m not sure if their characters were necessary。 At that point in the book, it just felt more like a detour from the main plot。 The most interesting characters were the human villains in my opinion, but they only get a few POV chapters。 I think this book could’ve been much more interesting if there were a more even distribution of the good- and bad-guy POVs。 As it stands, the good-guy POVs take over the book。 There is hardly any in-person interaction with the villains。 (Only at the beginning and once in the middle of the book。) Even though the characters kept stating they were in danger, I often didn’t feel the danger。 The inhuman “mastermind” villain is called “What Waits。” Unfortunately, this mastermind felt very abstract and thus didn’t present a large degree of the “danger factor” for me personally。 The heroes never interact this this mastermind in book one。 Friendships definitely take priority over romantic relationships in this book。 There is barely any romance at all in this book, and I’m someone who usually needs a bit more romance in my books。 There are brief hints of romance that may develop into something more in the second book。 But in this 568-paged book, it wasn’t enough for me。Final Thoughts:By the time I got to the final spurt of action near the end, I just wanted to be finished reading this book – which is not a good feeling to have。 There was so much build-up, I thought we would at least get a big showdown with the main villains。 But no。 The heroes do fight something near the end, but I was just kind of like “Whaat?” because it was not the main villain。 And then the story just … ends kind of abruptly。 I didn’t even think the final chapter was very good set-up for the second book; the villain gets very dramatically enraged all of a sudden about something without delving enough into the significance。 (In case you would like to read the book, I don’t want to say too much and spoil。)Sadly, I can’t say that this 568-paged book was worth all the time and effort I put into reading it。 This book had so much potential to be a fun, action-packed adventure story, but it just fell short for me。 I thought that a story about a pirate’s daughter, an immortal, an assassin, a sorceress, a squire, a forger, and a bounty hunter would be way more exciting。 I’m undecided whether I will be reading the sequel or not。 I’m leaning towards not, but I will likely read other early reviews first。Having said all of this, I understand that every book is the product of an author’s hard work and effort。 These are my personal opinions and thoughts about one book。 Some readers may still enjoy the writing style of this book and should feel free to give it a go if you feel so inclined。 I hope your week is filled with good books! Happy reading, everyone 🙂*Content Warnings: Fantasy violence and gore; a few f-words and s-words throughout。* 。。。more

I listened to this book on audible and while I wasn’t a fan of the narrator (at all), I also don’t think she had much to work with。 The world building was great。 I loved all of the descriptions, down to the smells of the city。 However, this book was very obviously the Set Up and I’m just… not a fan of that。 To be honest, I didn’t go in with a lot of expectations。 After the first RQ, the rest had fallen quite flat for me。 That being said, I love love fantasy and was looking forward to this。I know I listened to this book on audible and while I wasn’t a fan of the narrator (at all), I also don’t think she had much to work with。 The world building was great。 I loved all of the descriptions, down to the smells of the city。 However, this book was very obviously the Set Up and I’m just… not a fan of that。 To be honest, I didn’t go in with a lot of expectations。 After the first RQ, the rest had fallen quite flat for me。 That being said, I love love fantasy and was looking forward to this。I know creating a whole world and balancing characters and plots is difficult, but I was hoping for more than just a book that set everything up for later books。 Almost nothing happens, the characters are bland (though I have a soft spot for Dom/Corayne), and I love Sorasa because I love a good assassin that’s aloof and mysterious, but the rest of the characters fell pretty flat。 And even the ones I liked were lacking depth。 The plot is meh, the action is so brief, you might miss it if you blink, and the only truly interesting thing was Queen Erida。 I just expected… more, I guess。 I’ll still be looking forward to the next in the series, especially because I can tell the author spent a lot of time and care developing the world of Allward, so I’m hopeful that it can only go up from here。 。。。more

I would like to start this review off by letting you know I will not be using punctuation besides periods and whatever autocorrect does in this review and you will have to deal with it。I absolutely adore the premise of this book。 While I can't tell if the pacing was too fast or too slow I was always entertained。 The world is very developed which I have no particular opinion about。 Personally Im more a character person。 The cast of characters seems big but looking back its a pretty average size。 I would like to start this review off by letting you know I will not be using punctuation besides periods and whatever autocorrect does in this review and you will have to deal with it。I absolutely adore the premise of this book。 While I can't tell if the pacing was too fast or too slow I was always entertained。 The world is very developed which I have no particular opinion about。 Personally Im more a character person。 The cast of characters seems big but looking back its a pretty average size。 The characters themselves aren't that developed which I hope will be changed in the next book。 They are very bland。 Somehow I found myself having an emotional attachment to the most minor of characters such as Cortael and Bella and Valeri。 Corayne the main character is realistic which was refreshing。 There are many characters I managed to hate despite their lack of depth。 This includes Taristan who should not be compared to Maven Sigil Ronin and Erida。 There is little romance in this book which I enjoyed。(view spoiler)[While I hate Erida and Taristan I do love their relationship。 Its a slow burn relationship which I love but im very impatient and am eagerly awaiting them acknowledging the feels I hope they have for each other。 (hide spoiler)] I do not need another relationship in this book。 If there is more fine as long as I don't get a Dom and Sorasa relationship。 This is because I read Dom as asexual and I just don't see them having any emotional connection。 I do hope the progress to frenemies from this begrudging ally situation they have going on。 Honestly while reading this book I had no idea which side I was rooting for so there's that。 Victoria is the reason I have trust issues so I went into this expecting betrayal。 I was told there was some。 This is not true。 The two things that could possibly considered betrayal were two separate events carried out by two separate people who made their intentions clear from the beginning。(view spoiler)[Erida marrying Taristan was in character。 She made the power move and no promises so I cannot consider this a betrayal。 Now with Sigil she always needed something in return and she helped them in the end。 (hide spoiler)]This book was clearly setting up the future books。 Its kinda of like a mix between the Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows。 Yeah I don't know what else to say except I am eagerly awaiting the next book。 。。。more

Realm Breaker is the first book in a ya fantasy trilogy by victoria aveyard。 A villain, Taristan, is on a mission to open portals which will lead to other realms and a group of heroes must come together in order to stop him from destroying the world。 There is great word building in this book and the character draw you into the story and keep you turning the pages for more。

2。5 This wasn’t unenjoyable by any means but it was just missing that。。。 something。 I felt myself skim reading the last 100 pages。 The villain romance was there but there was only maybe 5 chapters devoted to it in the entire book。 I just felt like it was focusing so much on the band of misfits on a road trip storyline - which has been done so many times。 I hated the way Corayne was treated like a child。 I did really love Andry and I’m excited to see where his storyline is going。

I really appreciated having a clear image of where the story was taking place, and I liked the diversity of the characters。-The negatives: Although the book started with a bang, it slowed down immediately after the action packed first 2 chapters and although it did improve towards the mid point I found it lacking depth, it was highly predictable with only one minor plot twist, and zero romance 。 。。。more

Because I’m a SIMP for these motherfuckers。So, in terms of the plot, I was bored to the point of almost DNFing until the 45-ish% mark when the ~twist~ happens。 Then I was completely hooked。 It's nothing wrong with the plot itself though, this type of book just has a different vibe from what I prefer。 If you love medieval style kingdoms, realllllllly extensive worldbuilding, or pirates, you will love this。 Honestly t 3。5/5 stars Give me an SGive me an IGive me an MGive me a PWhat’s it spell? ME !! Because I’m a SIMP for these motherfuckers。So, in terms of the plot, I was bored to the point of almost DNFing until the 45-ish% mark when the ~twist~ happens。 Then I was completely hooked。 It's nothing wrong with the plot itself though, this type of book just has a different vibe from what I prefer。 If you love medieval style kingdoms, realllllllly extensive worldbuilding, or pirates, you will love this。 Honestly the only reason I read so far without DNFing it was because it has one of my favorite tropes, aka ✨ ragtag team of unlikely allies who can't stand each other have to save the world ✨The banter in this is *chef's kiss* and said ragtag team is to die for。 (and also bc it had a soft, tea loving squire boy and a grumpy immortal who has strong morals shhhh)Anyway I love these characters so much that I’m going to talk about my favorite ones individually。 Let’s start with the map queen herself: Corayne An-Amarat "[。。。] with a sword on her back and maps in her pockets, the starless night in her eyes。" At first I thought she was like all the other "Badass" Fantasy Heroines That Are Too Stubborn For Their Own Good Like Seriously It's More Stupidity Than Stubbornness™ but I ended up absolutely adoring her。 She's so realistic and good-hearted but also very smart (I mean seriously, she speaks like,,, six languages) and she's a good MC in my opinion。 Andry Trelland “If I must betray my kingdom to save her, I will do so。”I don’t think I’ve ever simped harder for anyone, fictional or not。 Words can’t describe the love I have for this Soft Squire Boi™ aka the newest love of my life。 Him and Corayne are ADORABLE and I couldn't stop gushing over them。 Domachridhan of Iona "I just hope I am not stabbed again。" I have no words other than,,,,, I simp for him。 He is a cinnamon roll。 Sorasa Sarn “There are too many curse words, in too many languages, for me to choose only one。” Ok, so normally, I don't really like the Ruthless Assassin With No Morals™ trope and I was expecting to not like her,,,,but I was wrong。 I loved her so much。 Maybe I'm a little biased bc she's Ibalet, which I'm pretty sure is this fantasy world's version of an Arab, but that's not the point。 She's so badass and she's basically a cranky thirty year old version of Inej Ghafa with a weaker conscience。 She's so different from the tropey, reckless, stubborn assassins who are actually not that smart but are only considered assassins bc they kill people *cough* Celaena Sardothian *cough* and this was such a breath of fresh air in comparison。 Also, she and Dom basically adopted Corayne。 They are her parents now and you can't change my mind。 Sigil of the Temurijon “We Temur are free with our love and free with our anger。” There wasn't much of Sigil to see in this book, but I love her。 She has such a free spirit and she's also a complete badass, so what's not to love?My only other comment on this is spoilery so,,,,(view spoiler)[Why,,,,,, is there,,,,,, a FOURTEEN YEAR AGE GAP,,,, between Erida and Taristan ?? Like I get that Taristan has to be in his thirties bc he's Cortael's twin and he had to be like 16 years older than Corayne but ,,,,,, couldn't Erida have been aged up a little ??? I feel weird shipping them bc I kinda ship them but I also don't because hello ??? anyways。 that's all I have to say abt that。 (hide spoiler)]Read this book!!!I can't wait for the next installments to this series <3Also, please note that the pictures above are how I imagine the characters so don't come at me for bad imagination :)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more
